Bassike is basically synonymous with Australian fashion. Known for its simple cuts, highest quality fabrics and unwavering commitment to sustainability, the brand has become the backbone of many Australian wardrobes. It’s no surprise then that its latest drop, the Pre-Collection, embodies everything Australians love about the brand, but with a few more unexpected details.

In a nutshell, the collection is a celebration of the movement and freedom Bassike’s pieces afford its wearer. Fabrics like jersey, wool, cotton and cashmere — staple materials for the brand — are fashioned into classic pieces Bassike is known (and loved) for. Think floaty pants and tops that are fitted just enough without being restrictive. This season though, the pieces get colourful reimaginings. Shades that pop — a vibrant red named Grenadine here, a rich chocolate called Carob there — find iterations on tube tops, wrap shirts and stretch pants.

Given how central the idea of movement is to this collection, it made sense that in place of models, the collection was shot using dancers. Leaping through the air in a trench, bending backwards in a sweater, the dancers perfectly embody the freedom and motion the collection was designed to inspire.

While all the Bassike favourites are there, the design team have also incorporated some new techniques into the range. Dubbed ‘Bassike lace’, Italian lace is cleverly, yet conservatively, used in a way reminiscent of mesh. Meanwhile, denim gets treated with vintage washes using hand-dyeing techniques.

The Pre-Collection for both men and women is in-store now, available at Bassike on Level 1 of The Strand Arcade,
