This month, elegant homewares designer Maison Balzac and artisan bakery Sonoma have come together to launch a collection of charming bread baskets. In a collaboration that celebrates the art of sharing bread at the table, Maison Balzac has created two exquisite bread baskets that marry traditional French weaving patterns with the ancestral craftsmanship of Colombian artisans.

Created exclusively for Sonoma, each basket takes five hours to weave by hand, made from Iraca palm fibres dyed and crafted by local artisans in Colombia. The intricate patterns draw on traditional French weaving techniques, refined to perfectly cradle Sonoma’s signature loaves; the oval basket is designed to hold the iconic Bellata loaf, and the round basket is shaped for Sonoma’s renowned Miche. More than just vessels, these baskets are designed to bring a sense of ceremony and joy to the daily ritual of breaking bread.

Founded in 2012 by French-born Elise Pioch Balzac, Maison Balzac has become synonymous with reimagining everyday objects as works of art. From jewel-toned glassware and trompe l’oeil linens to transportive scents, Elise’s creations embody a surreal yet functional poetry she calls “jewellery for the table.” This collaboration with Sonoma was inspired by her childhood memories of French meals where bread was always at the centre, then expressed through the handwork of skilled makers across the world.
